If you decide to transfer a domain name from one domain registrar to another, you’ll need to go through a couple of safety procedures. One of them is obtaining a special EPP code from the present domain name registrar – as long as you are the registrant, since the code is sent to the domain owner’s email address and nobody else can see it. You’ll have to give this code to the new domain registrar, or else they will not be able to start the domain name transfer. The EPP authentication codes are case-sensitive and may comprise of numbers or special symbols such as commas or dots, which can be easily misentered, so make sure you copy/paste the right code. As an extra safety measure, the transfer code for a domain may be changed regularly. Some domain name registrars call this code a domain password, a domain secret or an Auth key as well.
